Invention Scams

Invention scams kill the entrepreneurial spirit.  “These companies make you feel so high, then you give them your money and it really bursts your bubble. The experience kills a person's entrepreneurial spirit.”  (Calvin Flowers, inventor of Security Jack and founder and CEO of Tel-Lock, Inc., quoted in Pamela Gold Waldo, “Let the inventor beware: your million-dollar idea is vulnerable to deceptive invention promoters,” Black Enterprise, February 1, 2007)

95% of companies catering to inventors are ripping them off.  "Many, many companies cater to helping inventors and at least 95% are ripping them off.  They don't rip off the ideas, they just empty people's wallets and leave the inventor with a useless design patent and no sales leads."  (Andrew Krauss, president of the Inventors Alliance quoted in John Tozzi, “How to Sell Your Invention,” Business Week, September 12, 2007)

How many inventors are conned annually in invention scams?  When an inventor is scammed how much money does he or she typically lose?
